The mission put before the hulking mage was a simple yet daunting task. One that he could probably handle on his own so long as he was careful. All he had to do was walk in, knock together some undead shambles and head back to town for a nice reward. At the same time it seemed that their numbers were growing quickly, which meant that there was no telling how many would have been there when he arrived. All it would take was one misstep and he could find himself swarmed by the monsters. Which would be bad, even for a powerful man such as himself.[break][break]
If he had his way they would’ve been carving a path through the hordes of undead to find the person summoning them and put an end to them to put this whole problem to rest. But that wasn’t the job he was assigned, so his hands were tied for the moment. The last thing he wanted to do at this point was upset the people providing him with work, especially since they were kind enough to actually pair him up with another guildless mage! It seemed like that was a rarity, so the least he could do was follow their instructions.[break][break]
Romilda stood on the outskirts of the city where he had arranged through their employer to meet his new partner. A large hand ran through his thick hair, ensuring everything was in place as he ensured that he would be presentable at this pivotal moment. No matter who this mystery mage was, it was important that good first impressions were made. He took a moment to straighten out the long flowing robe that covered his body, his lips curling into a pleased smile as everything seemed to be in place. Now all he had to do was wait for this individual so they could take the short trip to the ridge
a large man awaits him on the outskirts of a town. finding him in the designated meeting place did not take long. even if they had not been in an area outside populated places, uther figured that he'd still be easy to identify among the crowds.
"hello," he greets out loud as he enters the scene.
he assumes a subjugation mission would go easy with someone who looked as lethal as the person in front of him. he's still working on his combat, having little option against large groups of enemies. he hopes that his partner would be able to patch his weakness up.
then again, that would simply sound as if he'd be relying on him to carry him throughout the mission. he shrugs the thought for now.
"you're the one i was supposed to work with, right?" he asks, clarifying things before he forgets to do so and things get awkward. it has happened before, being one of the cons of being a rogue and not having a proper guild. he'd join one if his current circumstance did not restrict him from doing so.
he extends a hand as he introduces himself should he confirm his thoughts. "call me cain!"
Smokey eyes would lock onto an individual that would have escaped his notice had he not offered a greeting. He was a strapping young man with nice features, but was lacking in a certain something to help him stand out from the crowd. Not that Romilda would hold that against him. Very few individuals were blessed with his unique charms that were so easily identified from miles away.[break][break]
”Yes, I believe I am.” A hand gripped the strip of leather that fastened his broad bladed greatsword to his back as he stepped forward to meet his partner for the mission. He was always curious to learn what tricks his fellow mages had up their sleeves, a certain eagerness threatening to bubble through his calm presence as he looked the young man over.[break][break]
Head would bow slightly in greeting, Romilda’s hands moving to rest on his hips as he straightened himself back up. ”Romilda DePalo, at your service. I look forward to cleaving through the hordes of undead at your side. Shall we?” With a small gesture toward the path he would start making his way toward their destination. It wouldn’t be too long before they reached their destination, likely just enough time to get an answer to the question that plagued him so. ”So tell me about yourself Cain. What sort of spells do you bring to the table?”
"mine's nothing special," he answer, followed with a chuckle. "just a bit of basic spatial magic, i guess."
he demonstrates his magic in front of him, summoning forth a rifle from nothing. as soon as the firearm materialize, his hands would instinctively move it to a position where he gets ready to shoot. a shooting stance just feels right whenever he holds a gun.
"requip," he mentions the name of his magic softly.
he moves the end of the barrel towards the target location. the zombies have not come out of their hiding places just yet, but if the information given to them were correct, a simple noise would bring them all out in the open.
"romi," he calls him by a nickname he gives him on the fly, "you're ready, right?"
he hasn't told uther of his magic yet, but a practical demonstration was about to be witnessed soon enough anyways. he'd know of what the other was capable of in just a matter of seconds.
without wasting a second, he'd fire a shot from afar. the sound would wake the living dead up. he can take out a few one at a time, but he probably can't deal with a horde with just his rifle.
A thick finger curled around his chiseled chin as Romilda watched ‘Cain’ with a curious look in his eye. Spatial magic, even in its most basic forms, were impressive. He had seen it first hand countless times growing up around powerful mages. He nods slowly as the weapon forms in the other man’s hands, a soft chuckle slipping through his lips as he went through his clearly practiced motions.[break][break]
”Interesting.” He wasn’t quite sure how useful his magic would be if this guy was planning on engaging with ranged weaponry. But with such a versatile style of magic it would be wrong to assume that he didn’t have a few tricks up his sleeves. Brows rose as his name was called, a hint of amusement entering his smile as he shook his head. ”Already calling me Romi? You certainly move fast, don’t you?”[break][break]
A strong hand would come to rest on Uther’s shoulder, thick fingers giving it a firm squeeze as he moved to walk past the gun toting mage. ”I’m plenty ready. Let’s get to work.” As he spoke he would reach back to draw the hefty blade from his back. A normal man would struggle to even swing such a weapon, but Romilda seemed to wield it with relative ease.[break][break]
The moment the shot was fired the larger mage would start to cautiously move forward, readying himself for the undead hordes to rush toward the source of the noise. Of course it wouldn’t take long for them to start rushing toward their location. ”Here they come!” Romilda turned to look over his shoulder toward his partner, his mouth opening wide to let out a fierce shot. ”WITNESS MY HEAVENLY SPEED!”[break][break]
As he shouted Uther would start to feel a newfound strength in his legs and core muscles, as if a significant layer of muscle had suddenly formed under his skin. Romilda would feel the same effects, though his long robe would hide the bulging leg muscles. His eyes would turn forward once more as he sprinted forward at a stunning speed, moving to meet the approaching forces head on with blade in hand.

"hehe," he'd snicker as he was confronted with his use of a nickname. "it's easier to say after all."
and so he works with enchantment.
uther finds himself invigorated all of a sudden after the chant of sorts, with sudden sensations on his lower half of the body suggesting the enhancements in his muscles. "i'm not sure what to do with this though," he confesses, but before his words came through, romilda was already gone.
he approaches the horde along with his partner, though his pace was noticeably slower that his. it was more like he took it easy than anything else. as soon as the targets get in range, he switches from his rifle to his pistols.
he'd point both of them at the enemy and started shooting indiscriminately, rapid firing. "get them!" he'd yell in encouragement, watching the larger man from afar as he sprayed and prayed.
”Oh, I’m sure you’ll think of something.” Was the casual remark tossed over his shoulder as he bolted off toward the swarm of undead that were rushing toward the source of the sound. It didn’t take long for him to reach the front of the pack with his enhanced speed. Once in range he would swing his large blade in a horizontal arc, cleaving through one of the shambling corpses.[break][break]
The first skeleton he connected with would be severed at the spine, it’s frail body collapsing into a useless pile of bones. His blade would continue to travel, his blade sinking into the rotten flesh of the one beside it. The creature let out a ghastly wail as it’s decaying fingers wrapped around the blade and attempted to pull it’s wielder in.
”Awfully confident for a festering pile of flesh, aren’t you?” As he spoke Romilda would raise one of his enhanced legs, giving the creature a violent kick that would send it flying back into the monsters behind it. With his blade freed he would kick off the ground, propelling him through the air until he came skidding to a stop about ten feet back. ”If only we could cut our way through this mess and find the mage responsible for summoning these foul beings.”
shooting continued as he approached the hoard. one, two... each individual shot pierced through an undead's skull, thinning their numbers one by one in rapid succession. still, he finds the rate at which they decrease the horde's numbers far too slow.
the guns on his hand disappear, and in the next moment, they're replaced with a large blade on a gun's stock that acts as its hilt. he runs towards the largest clump he could see, utilizing the buff as to not waste it.
hitting the trigger of the gun cause a sudden wide movement. uther slashes the zombies in front of him with a wide arc, aided by the recoil of the gunblade. projectiles would be shot from behind him, but that was of little consequence compared to the damage he does with the blade.
"i like how you think!" he'd remark, the positivity radiant in his voice. he affixes the large blade in a proper stance, readying for another attack. "it's either that or tire ourselves trying to fight these anyways."
it wasn't in the job description to fix the source of the problem, but anything extra was worth it for uther. excitement and grandeur of doing something as majestic as doing the public a favor always made a good story.
Fighting with an army of undead to the front and a mage that seemed to be spraying bullets behind certainly wasn’t the most relaxing experience of Romilda’s life, but things were going well enough. Cain seemed to be familiar with the weaponry, as none of the seemingly random shots came close to causing any unwanted harm. Though it was quite a relief when the hail of bullets stopped, his partner rushing in with what seemed to be some form of...gun sword?[break][break]
Romilda would dart forward alongside him, his jaws clenching as he swung his blade in a similar arc in an effort to swath through these enemies lake a scythe through blades of grass. He cleaved through a row of skeletal monstrosities, his feet shuffling back slightly to prevent any of the nearby undead to approach his flanks.[break][break]
A curious glance was shot toward Uther, his brow rising slightly. ”Are you serious? A mage powerful enough to raise an army like this…” Romi stepped forward, thrusting his blade into the chest of an approaching fleshy zombie before violently swinging his blade upward. The monster was lifted slightly off the ground only for the blade to be pulled loose as it sliced it’s torso in twain. ”Still, if we could at the very least discover the source I’m sure the city would be quite pleased. Perhaps there’s some merit to this concept after all...”
